Actress Angelina Jolie is the latest in a string of celebrities to criticize proposals for a so-called "mansion tax" in the U.K. that the Labour party has said it would introduce should it win a general election in 2015.
The actress told Channel 4 News on Tuesday that the party's plan to tax houses worth more than £2 million ($3.1 million) "could put me off" buying a home in the U.K. "I'm quite responsible about money," shetold Channel 4 News.
The details of the controversial "Mansion Tax" proposals have not been revealed by the opposition Labour party but the plan has already attracted criticism from well-known U.K. personalities including TV presenters Myleene Klass and Griff Rhys Jones.
There are ongoing rumors that the American actress and her husband Brad Pitt could be planning a move to the U.K. Jolie is reported to have looked round a luxury five-bedroom apartment in Marylebone, in London's trendy West End, U.K. newspapers reported on Tuesday.
Addressing speculation of a move to English shores, she said: "They kind of do say that often with us wherever we land. They've [the media] figured out that I'm quite fond of England. I have lived here before and in the future it would be very nice to have a foothold here for work. Some kind of an office I think would be nice."
